Video: 秋夜讀易 by 夏林余

Guqin is not just 'for old people'. Young people, middle age people play it too. It only takes several months (ok, with daily practice, that is) to pick up the basics, not years. This guqin zither is an instrument that men can learn to play, without looking effeminate. (ahem, not that there's any wrong with being effeminate though, haha. Don't be angry. *nervous laughter*) A man can still look manly while playing the guqin. Check this out: 秋夜讀易 by 夏林余

  1. Hi Shawn,

Thanks for sharing your interest in Guqin. I am a Singaporean Chinese lady who just came back from China- Biggest reward is to learn Guqin from 張子盛 student. The Guqin trend is blooming everywhere in China now, in Beijing and Tianjin, the Guqin teachers perform at universities, etc to promote understanding and public interest in Guqin, which is one of our greatest inheritance. Here, I share with you 《臥龍吟》link on youtube

  2. Thanks for sharing the video with me, Miss Tan! My teacher Mr. John Thompson lives in Singapore (behind 313 Orchard). He welcomes visitors to play guqin with him and chit chat. He'd be happy to change your guqin strings to silk ones if you let him. haha. Each set of guqin silk strings costs about S$70 I think. haha He is very friendly, speaks Mandarin and recites Chinese poems too. You may contact him at his website at www.silkqin.com Enjoy!
